Anglicanism
First and foremost, an Anglican is a Christian. Anglicanism is centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While the Gospel animates all we do and believe, it doesn’t mean that Anglicanism is unimportant to us. The Anglican Way is a tradition we love and one that provides many tools that help us become like Jesus. The Anglican Way shapes the way we worship and therefore shapes our loves: our liturgy comes from the Book of Common Prayer, which is rooted in scripture, and we engage with Word and Sacrament each week. It also shapes the way we’re structured: we have a bishop (a pastor to the pastor), a parish council (or board of directors), and partnerships with other Anglican churches in our region.
Global Family
Being Anglican also means that we’re a part of the global and historic church. With over 80 million members in 164 countries, the Anglican Communion is the third largest Christian denomination in the world (behind Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy). The Majority World, especially Africa and Asia, are home to Anglicanism’s most faithful and vibrant churches. This is a fully global expression of faith! Over the last two decades, a renewal movement has even begun to spread from those areas back to North America and Europe. When we enter into the liturgy on Sunday morning, we join with Anglican brothers and sisters in Christ from around the world. With this understanding, Christ Central utilizes liturgies from various parts of the world in our worship. Our roots run all the way to the Rwandan Anglican church, whose witness to Jesus in post-genocide Rwanda has played an integral role in the recovery of that nation.
Our Place Alongside Our Brothers and Sisters
Is any church or tradition perfect? Of course not. We fully embrace that we are only one corner of the kingdom of God, and that God is working all over the place and all over Corvallis. But we also believe Anglicanism is strategically placed to bring healing to some deeply broken places in our culture. Our value of “we” over “me,” incarnational and tangible spirituality, global connections, and the humility to accept that maybe history does have something to teach us makes our Anglican accent particularly peculiar – and attractive – to those longing for more than the American dream can give them. We invite you to join us on the Anglican Way, and to meet Jesus in fresh ways along the journey.
Christ Central is part of the Diocese of the Rocky Mountains, a diocese in the Anglican Church of North America, with strong relational ties to the Anglican Church in Rwanda.
