Beliefs
Christ Central is part of the Anglican tradition. With roots going back to the early church, Anglicanism is also a Reformational expression of the Christian church. As Reformational Anglicans, we hold to the following:
The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be God’s Word written, containing all that is necessary for salvation.
The orthodox Christian creeds: the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed with the Chalcedonian Definition.
The 39 Articles of Religion, which serve as a statement of faith for Anglicans. Composed in the sixteenth century, the 39 Articles outline the essential beliefs of the Anglican Church, addressing matters of orthodoxy as well as the relationship between Christians and the broader culture. Learn more
At the center of all these documents (Bible, Creeds, and Confessions) is Jesus. We believe the person and work of Jesus Christ is central to all of Scripture. He is the heart of the gospel and the only hope for this world. Jesus Christ is the center of the Trinity (Matt. 28:19); the center of creation (John 1:2; Col. 1:16; Heb. 1:2); the center of redemption (Eph. 2:4-9); the center of the life of his Bride, the Church (Eph. 5:25, 32; Rev. 21:9); and the center of eternity (Rev. 5:4-14). From creation to new creation via redemption—Christ is central.
How we Worship
We believe that the practices of the church ought to be rooted in the teachings of God’s Word. We do not believe that we have the definitive worship form but we believe there are specific practices found throughout Scripture that should be included within worship. We believe worshiping in this liturgical way is not just expressive, but formative as well. Some of these elements include:
A call to worship where we bless God’s name (Psalm 100:4)
Prayer for God to open our lips to praise him (Psalm 51:15)
Worshiping God in Song (Col. 3:16)
The reading and proclaiming of God’s Word (Acts 2:42)
Public Prayer and Confession ( Acts 2:42)
The celebration of the Lord’s Supper (1 Cor. 11:26)
The sending forth of the people (Mtt. 28:19)
